Winner – Matthew Barwick of Barwick Developments

Matthew has had an impressive start to his career in the building and construction industry.

Named Master Builders Tasmania Apprentice of the Year in 2007 and a finalist in the Australian Government National Training Awards 2008 and Apprentice of the Year winner for Master Builders Association of Northern Tasmania.  In 2017 Matthew won his first Master Builders Tasmania Awards for Excellence.

Matthew commenced his own company; Barwick Developments 10 years ago working on residential projects and has successfully built his business in to a strong construction company known for their high-end residential projects. Matthew’s “do it once, do it right” approach sets him aside from his competitors.

Currently undertaking his Diploma of Building and Construction Matthew continues to strive to develop his knowledge and skills within the industry. Quality and safety are always at the forefront of his business.

One initiative that impressed the judges was that Matthew employed an apprentice shortly after starting his own company and trained him how he wished his company to be recognised. 10 years later he is still a very valued employee.

Finally, Matthew’s overall professional business undertaking, his high level of workmanship and his passion for the industry is a credit to him.
