Winner – Craig Doran Design & Construction – Shooting Star

With new construction representing less than 1% of all buildings, the imperative for energy efficiency improvements to existing buildings is pressing if meaningful reductions in greenhouse gas emissions are to be achieved and the embodied carbon in existing structures secured.  This Craig Doran project represents an exemplar of exactly such an approach.  An ageing house, potentially at the end of its useable life, has been re-invigorated, with a focus on utility, beauty, and energy efficiency.  The quality of thought embedded in its design and construction is excellent, and the finished house provides a model for energy efficient residential refurbishment.
