A change is coming that will impact how new builds are wired up for electricity and Aurora Energy are holding presentations for MBT Members to explain the changes in more detail.
From 1 July, Aurora Energy will no longer offer its legacy flat rate tariffs to new customers. This process is called ‘grandfathering’ and it means its Residential Flat Rate (Tariff 31/41), Business Hot Water (Tariff 43), and General Business (Tariff 22) will be impacted.
Importantly, grandfathering a retail tariff does NOT remove the tariff or impact existing customers on that tariff. Customers who already have these tariffs will be able to keep them.
This change simplifies the choices for how a customer’s new build site is wired up for their electricity as, after 1 July 2024, the vast majority of residential and small business sites with single phase supplies will only require one load tail from the meter.
To support customers who prefer a flat rate tariff option, Aurora Energy is creating new Market Retail Contracts for both residential and business customers.
Customers who are building a new property are encouraged to contact Aurora Energy to discuss the best options for their electricity usage.
