Master Builders welcomes the announcement to fast track new funding for social housing in the recent State Budget.

Master Builders welcomes yesterday’s announcement to fast track new funding for social housing and bring the total investment in 2019-20 to $68 million in this week’s State Budget.

Master Builders Tasmania Executive Director, Matthew Pollock said: “the only way to address housing affordability is to boost supply and this announcement means we will see more supply of affordable housing at a time when the community needs it.”

“This plan is realistic given the expected completion of a number of major commercial construction projects and the tail end of flood remediation work in the next 12 months.”

“This additional investment into social and affordable housing is well timed to keep the momentum going in the construction industry.” Mr Pollock said.

“We are still seeing skills shortages in certain trades, most prominently in brick laying and carpentry. We hope to see an equally positive commitment in the State Budget to boost training to ensure we have the right skills to help build more social and affordable housing in the future.” Mr Pollock said.
